CSV columns and accepted headers

Every column the import understands, the other names it will accept for each, and the rules for coordinates and tags.

Last updated

The import is forgiving about header names, so a spreadsheet exported from somewhere else usually works without renaming anything. Headers are trimmed, lower-cased, and spaces become underscores before matching, so Store Name, store_name and STORE NAME are all the same column.

Columns

Column Also accepted as Notes
name store, store_name, location, title Required. The file is rejected without it.
address_line1 address, address1, street, addressline1 Street address.
address_line2 address2, suite, unit, addressline2 Shown to shoppers, ignored when placing the pin. Not in the template; add it if you need it.
city town
region state, province, county
postcode zip, zipcode, postal, postal_code, pincode, zip_code
country country_code Keep it consistent across rows.
lat latitude Decimal degrees.
lng lon, long, longitude Decimal degrees.
phone tel, telephone Shown on the card.
hours opening_hours, hours_text Free text, shown as typed.
website url, web Shown on the card.
google_listing_url google_url, maps_url, google_maps, google Becomes the View on Google button. If it contains coordinates they are used when lat/lng are empty.
tags tag, category, categories Separated with |, not commas.
external_id id, store_id, ref Your own identifier. Used to match rows on re-import.

Unknown columns are ignored, so you can leave internal columns in the file.

What a row needs to be placed

A row needs a name plus one of: lat and lng; address_line1, city and country; or postcode and country. Anything less is reported as Invalid with the note "Needs coordinates or a full address".

Coordinates

  • If lat and lng are both present and valid, they are used as-is and the address is not looked up at all. This is the fastest and most accurate way to import, if you have them.
  • 0,0 and out-of-range values count as missing. If the address is good enough on its own, it is looked up instead; if not, the row is Invalid ("Malformed or incomplete coordinates").
  • Coordinates inside a google_listing_url (a full Google Maps URL, not a short link) are used when lat/lng are empty.

Limits

One file at a time, up to 1 MB and 2,000 rows, comma-separated. Larger lists go in as several files; re-importing never creates duplicates, so it is safe to split.
